VIDEO: Paul McCartney on SNL

With George Harrison’s doc coming out in October, let’s share some 2010 McCartney from SNL.  Give the guy some deserved credit; always thought this version of his band has been kind of lost amidst the Paul spotlight – and Paul is impressive.  A Beatle.

Roots/Rock: Brian Fallon and the Horrible Crowes, Truth and Salvage Co.

Kudos to the Vogue, for an five-band, all-local bill this Friday night (8.5) – they have Cory Williams Band, Slothpop, Ladymoon, Borrow Tomorrow, and Chad Mills & The Upright Willies all scheduled to play. Borrow Tomorrow opened for Bob Seger at Conseco Fieldhouse in May, while it was just announced that Mills will open for Langhorne Slim at Radio Radio on August 25.

Recently added, coming November 4, JJ Grey & Mofro play at at the very same Vogue Theatre, with one of our favorite bands, Truth & Salvage Co. opening up. The LA-based band, with Hoosier Tim Jones on vocals and guitar, is also at Rib America on September 3, for a 4:15pm set.

Brian Fallon (Gaslight Anthem) says he is doing a Revival Tour in Europe this September, playing with his side band The Horrible Crowes, doing their songs as well as Gaslight Anthem songs on this tour. He says on his website that they will be stripped down versions and adds they are also planing to squeeze in some tour dates around the late summer and fall.
The Horrible Crowes is a band he formed with his friend (and his guitar tech) Ian Perkins, and they have a new album “Elsie” coming out September 6. You can hear “Behold the Hurricane” here. It sounds a whole lot like Gaslight Anthem.

Truth and Salvage Co. take Indy to Saturday night church; exclusive video

Fans may have come out to see Truth and Salvage Co. Saturday night at Radio Radio for different reasons — in the past year, the band has opened for the Black Crowes and Avett Brothers, and played two local club shows. But by the end of the 90 minute show, all concertgoers received a healthy dose of gospel music.

The Band Perry (with former Seymour, now Indianapolis resident) Thom Daugherty on guitar) will get two high-profile TV gigs later this month. The group appears on Ellen on the 27th, and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on the 28th.

The Jayhawks

→ The classic Jayhawks lineup of Gary Louris, Mark Olson, Marc Perlman, Tim O’Reagan and Karen Grotberg has been recording together for the first time in 15 years. Acccording to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the album “…is essentially done. Louris is currently holed up in Tucson, Ariz., working on the final mix of the record at a friend’s studio, Wave Lab.” (read full story) Reissues of the group’s Hollywood Town Hall and Tomorrow the Green Grass albums come out Tuesday (January 18).
Truth & Salvage Co., which includes ex-Old Pike singer/songwriter Tim Jones, returns to Indianapolis for a gig at Radio Radio on February 19th. Last year’s show at Birdy’s earned the top spot on my list of best shows of 2010. We’ll have an interview with Jones closer to the Radio Radio gig.

→ Roots-rocker Webb Wilder will be inducted into the Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame at a ceremony Tuesday (January 18) night. A native of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Webb will be in good company alongside inductees such as Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Tammy Wynette, Conway Twitty, the Staples Singers, Sam Cooke, Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Elvis Presley.
Long a rock cult favorite, and owner of one minor radio hit, the Associated Press described Wilder’s stage performance as “a glorious amalgamation of grunge chords, killer grooves, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins theatrics, a healthy sense of humor, and great pop melodies.”
Wilder’s most recent studio release is entitled More Like Me.
