VIDEO: Springsteen at 2012 Light of Day benefit – "Because the Night"

Bruce Springsteen was an unannounced guest at the annual “Light of Day” benefit show in Asbury Park over the weekend. He joined Joe Grushecky’s band for a long set of his own songs.  Here’s a video of “Because the Night” , with a killer Bruce solo at the end.  Whenever I hear a conversation about great rock and roll guitar players, he rarely gets mentioned.  Watch this solo; raw, soulful and loud.  One of the great rock guitarists, no matter what some best-of list might say….

VIDEO: Van Halen – "Tattoo"

Give the boys a B+ on the first single from their upcoming album, due in February.  They’ve apparently mined some territory  (the late 70’s) in their songbook to resurrect this one.  Whatever.  David Lee Roth is himself, Eddie fires off  a couple “classic” solos and the harmony trickery fakes the missing Michael Anthony sweet background vocal rather effectively.  Nicely done.
